The Top Golfers that Thailand has Produced

Thailand has produced some stellar professional golfers. They have put the country on the map and have drawn attention to excellent golf courses and training opportunities available there. Some of the best golfers from Thailand are relative unknowns here in Australia. We at Pattaya Golf Trips thought that we’d put together an article listing the best of the best from this popular golfing destination. Here’s a list of great golfers from Thailand.

#1 Thaworn Wirachant

Wirachant is a well-known name in Thailand and the international golfing circuit. The golfer turned professional in 1987. Since then, he has accumulated 19 wins, 1 on the European Tour and 18 on the Asian Tour. In the Asian Tour, he landed first place in all those wins. He’s the second Thai player to ever win a European tournament. He holds a record of most wins on the Asian Tour. He has also appeared in team competitions three times during his professional career.

#2 Thongchai Jaidee

Jaidee is one of the better known golfers out of Thailand. He has a record for having the highest career earnings for any golfer from Thailand. Jaidee started out late and only turned professional at the age of 30. However, his performance has been outstanding ever since. To date, he has won 18 times and 7 of those wins are on the European Tour. He qualified for the 2015 Presidents Cup squad. He was the first golfer from his country to receive that honour. His most recent win is the 2015 Porsche European Open. He defeated Graeme Storm to claim the win.

#3 Boonche Ruangkit

Ruangkit is an established and popular golfer on the senior professional circuit. He plays the Champions Tour and has 16 wins to his name. Born in 1956, the golfer turned professional in 1986 and has been playing well since then. For the 16 wins, he has won 5 Asian Tours, 5 European Seniors Tour, and 6 other tournaments. He was awarded the European Seniors Tour Order of Merit in 2010. One the European Seniors Tour, he has won four times, including three straight events.

#4 Prayad Marksaeng

Marksaeng has been one of the top 100 listed in the Official World Golf Rankings. He has won 15 tournaments since he started his career in 1991. He has won 5 Japan Golf Tours and 9 Asian Tour events. He has also represented Thailand in several world cups and is also one of the first people to reach a million US dollars in earnings. It’s very likely that he would also move to the Seniors tournaments in the future.

#5 Chawalit Plaphol

Plaphol has been playing golf since the age of 12. He has participated in several events since then and people have been following his career with hope for a long time. He turned professional in 1996. Since then, he has won 7 events. He won 1 Japan Golf Tour, 4 Asian Tours, and 2 other events.

#6 Thammanoon Sriroj

He is the cousin of Plaphol and is one of the first golfers from Thailand to reach one million US dollars in Asian Tour earnings. To date, he has won 7 tournaments, of which 5 are Asian and 2 are other events. He started his career in 1991 and has been considerably successful ever since.
